Stanley Tshosane wants to stay on as Botswana coach despite his side’s 6-1 thrashing against Guinea in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Tshosane guided Botswana to their first ever qualification for the Afcon, emerging as the first team to earn a ticket for the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, despite being in a qualification group with Tunisia, Togo and Malawi.

The 55-year-old coach defended himself following the Guinea mauling on Saturday, arguing he has the right to continue in his position.

“My contract is ending next month,” Tshosane said.

“One loss is not enough to sack a coach. So, why should I go?”

Tshosane said a great deal of improvement needs to be made, but believes he knows the specific areas that must be addressed.

“We are a very small nation, we do not play professional football in my country, most of the players have other jobs they do, we also need to expose our players internationally,” he said.

“We need to know when and how to react, when to go forward, when to go backwards and our concentration must be better but we have learnt from this experience.”
