Eduardo Vargas played down comparisons with countryman Alexis Sanchez following his official unveiling as a Napoli player.

Vargas, 22, joined Napoli on January 9 after helping Universidad de Chile to the Chilean Primera Division and Copa Sudamericana titles.

He reportedly turned down offers from Chelsea and AC Milan to sign on at the Stadio San Paolo.

“Yes, many clubs were interested in me,” Vargas said.

“I chose Napoli because they made a big effort to sign me already in this season.”

“Napoli is a good team, a beautiful city, that’s why I chose to come here.”

Vargas arrives just seven months after countryman Alexis Sanchez left Serie A for Barcelona.

Sanchez cemented his reputation by helping Udinese to a fourth-placed finish last season, and some observers are already tipping Vargas to fill the Chilean void in Italy.

“It gives me great pleasure to be compared to Sanchez, but he is already a phenomenon and I am just starting,” Vargas said.

“I am happy to be in Naples, it is a beautiful city and I chose to wear this shirt because the team believed in me from the beginning.”

“I hope to play soon, but it depends on the coach.”
