Southampton will not be taken lightly by Tottenham on Saturday, according to Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen.

The St. Mary’s Stadium outfit have lost just one of their last seven Premier League matches in an impressive campaign that has seen them defeat the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea at home.

They sit 12th in the table and played well in a 2-1 home defeat against Tottenham in October, meaning Vertonghen is aware of the quality Mauricio Pochettino’s side possess.

He told the club’s official website: “They are a strong side, they want to play football and they’ve had some amazing results, especially at home.

“We had a difficult game there (earlier in the season), we went 2-0 up but they scored early in the second half and it was tough.

“We know what to expect and everyone is ready for Saturday. We have to be ready for another final on Saturday, like all games. They are all important now.”

Tottenham, who sit fifth, need a win to keep the pressure on Chelsea and Arsenal in the race for third in the Premier League table, a finish that would guarantee them automatic entry into the UEFA Champions League group stages.
