Arturo Vidal has apologised to Juventus and Chile for being sent home in disgrace from the national team’s training camp.

The 24-year-old, along with four other players, were banished from the squad by head coach Claudio Borghi for being 45 minutes late to a training session.

The players had reportedly partied late into the night to celebrate Jorge Valdivia’s son’s baptism, much to Borghi’s displeasure.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man spoke of his remorse at his actions, and has written an open letter to apologise.

“My dearest wish is to apologise to everyone, especially to my team-mates. I realise the mistake and I hope to clarify it with coach Claudio Borghi and his staff personally,” the letter, published in Il Corriere dello Sport, said.

“With them I have a professional relationship but also one of gratitude and respect. I hope that the pain I caused with my attitude might be fading, just for now I offer my deepest apologies.”

Despite the ill-discipline not overly affecting Juventus, Vidal has also said sorry to the Turin club.

“I would like to apologise also to the Juventus fans, who have shown me all their affection. I made a mistake and now I expect just punishment from my federation.”

“My hope is to someday go back to wearing the jersey of my country because nothing would make me more happy and proud,” he said.
