Villarreal sign Javi Fuego

Villarreal have completed the signing of veteran midfielder Javi Fuego from Espanyol, the Yellow Submarine announced via their Twitter account.

The 34-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract after the two clubs had reached an agreement over the transfer fee.

Fuego will be used as an extra option in midfield at a time when head coach Javi Calleja has got quite a few central midfielders out injured.

Javier Fuego Martinez has made close to 300 La Liga appearances during spells with Sporting Gijon, Levante, Recreativo Huelva, Rayo Vallecano, Valencia and Espanyol.

The central midfielder enjoyed three very successful campaigns with los Che, where he got a taste of Champions League football.
