Villas-Boas: 15 years and finish

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is already looking at retirement, saying he intends to walk away from the game after 15 years in the dug-out.

The former Porto coach is often seen highly animated on the touchline, and with Sir Alex Ferguson celebrating his 25th anniversary at Manchester United this week, Villas-Boas has made it clear he has no intention of replicating his Premier League rival.

Villas-Boas only celebrated his 34th birthday last month, but believes it would be unhealthy to have too long a management career.

“It’s a stressful job which is why I don’t want to be doing it for a long time, but the passion for the job is not affected,” Villas-Boas told The Daily Mail.

The Chelsea manager is only in his third season as a manager but has highlighted the recent illnesses of Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp and former Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier as a reason to leave management sooner than most.

“Eventually, Gerard decided to step down – rightly so – last year and we’re happy that Harry’s operation went well,” he said.

“My idea of a short spell in management was always because it felt right for me. 15 years, that’s all.”
