Gareth Bale can end speculation on his Tottenham future by signing a new contract, manager Andre Villas-Boas has said.

The 23-year-old won the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award on Thursday, following his Professional Footballers Association Player and Young Player of the Year awards.

The Welshman’s current deal is due to run until 2016, but Villas-Boas wants him to extend that, with Manchester United and Real Madrid reportedly sniffing around his signature.
“It would be good for him (to sign a new contract),” the Portuguese said. “I think he deserves it for the season he has had.
“Obviously we could put to bed every single speculation that’s coming out.
“It would be excellent and I think a reward for what he has achieved this season.”
Bale has scored a combined 30 goals for club and country this season, and gave a

strong hint that he would like to extend his stay the club.
“I want to play at the highest level possible and be playing against the best teams in the world,” Bale told The Daily Mirror.

“I think the club is going in the right direction. All our objectives are the same, we just have to try and achieve them now.
“The club has grown every year and I’ve become a better player every year. We’ve had a taste of Champions League football and that’s where we want to be again.”
Tottenham face Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday and Villas-Boas believes the race for fourth place is still very much alive despite trailing Arsenal with only two games remaining.
“Hopefully there will be more twists and turns,” Villas-Boas added.
“We have to do our job in the two remaining fixtures and it’s time for somebody to slip up. At the moment, we can only focus on ourselves, try to get the maximum points possible and wait for something to happen.
“The Premier League can change in a weekend. Everything is still a possibility.”
