Villas-Boas plots a way to stop United

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas does not believe he will be judged on the result his side achieves against Manchester United on Sunday.

United have made an impressive start to their season, winning all four of their games to top the Premier League table.

Meanwhile Villas-Boas’ time in charge at Chelsea has got off to a steady, if unspectacular, start, with the Blues two points behind United in third place.

And the Portuguese said a loss at Old Trafford on Sunday would not undo the good work done by his side so far this season.

“It’s the fifth game of the season and I think any manager who is judged after five games, there is nothing wrong with the manager: instead there is something wrong with the people who run clubs,” Villas-Boas said.

“I think we have made a good, strong start in the Premier League. This game comes at a good time for us as both teams feel very motivated and strong.”

“Hopefully this will be enough for the spectacle to be excellent, which we should all hope for.”

“Normally when there is high expectation on the game, sometimes things go the other way and it’s a boring tactical game.”

“Hopefully it won’t because that’s not the culture of the Premier League.”

“What I want is for my team to focus and to be confident and know that the challenge will be a big one, but also there are good signs we can take something out of the game.”

Villas-Boas was full of praise for United, who have scored 18 goals and conceded just three in their first four matches.

“You have to praise the team when anyone starts a season like that. It’s impressive,” he said.

“It impresses the fans which are the most important part. They get to enjoy these type of goals from Manchester United or Manchester City. Or any team in the world that starts a goal scoring spree like this one. It’s good for football”

Ivorian striker Didier Drogba has not made an appearance for Chelsea since he was knocked out against Norwich on August 28, but Villas-Boas said he was still not ready to return.

“He (Drogba) did a medium intensity session with us yesterday and a high tempo session today,” Villas-Boas said.

“But I think it’s a little bit too soon to go with him for the United game. So I think he’s out.”
