Wales will face Costa Rica in February in a tribute game in memory of former manager and player Gary Speed.

Costa Rica were the opponents when Speed made his debut for Wales back in 1990, and have been chosen as the opposition for a memorial match that will take place next month.

The clash has been scheduled for February 29, with 10 percent of the profits from the game going to charity.

A statement from the Welsh FA reads: “This will be an opportunity to celebrate the life and achievements of a great servant to Welsh football, both as a player and as a manager.”

The football world was shocked by the death of the former Leeds and Newcastle United midfielder last year at the age of 42, with Speed masterminding a change in fortunes of the Welsh national side as they looked to continue their good 2011 form into qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.
