Germany coach Joachim Loew has revealed that he has always considered Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller in his plans.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper won two consecutive Bundesliga titles in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, an achievement which had not gone unnoticed by the German trainer.

“I never scrapped Weidenfeller from my notebook. At the end, it’s the performance that counts,” the 52-year-old said.

At a recent charity event, Loew shared some of his earlier career plans, telling reporters: “My childhood dream was to become a pilot.

“I like it adventurous, in 2010 I flew with a microlight aircraft. I also did paragliding in the Tirol Alps from 2500 metres. I like to look at the world from above from time to time.”

Germany’s next friendly match will be in February against France.
