Wenger buoyed by comeback win

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes his team’s ‘perfect’ comeback win over Tottenham proves his side are ‘more alive than anybody thought’.

Wenger’s men staged a sensational fight back from 2-0 down at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, winning 5-2 with a sparkling attacking display dismantling their North London rivals.

Bacary Sagna, Robin van Persie and Tomas Rosicky scored to put Arsenal in the lead before Theo Walcott capped the win with a brace.

Wenger, whose team responded after going behind to a Louis Saha goal and an Emmanuel Adebayor penalty, hailed his side’s effort and said it showed they were still capable of competing with the English Premier League’s best sides.

“Today shows that Arsenal is alive more than anybody thought before the game. We had a performance today where the technical side and drive of the team was perfect,” he said.

“Everything was perfect despite a very bad start. I think Tottenham started well for the first five minutes, after – it was all us for 85 minutes.”

“We dominated the game. We were 2-0 down and refused to lose the game. We were determined to win. We had a great spirit.”

“It is still possible to finish above Tottenham if we keep our run going. It is possible but it will be down to consistency. Everybody in the Premier League now can lose points.”

Meanwhile, Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said it was an uncharacteristic performance from his team, who are seven points clear of Arsenal in third.

Spurs looked to be in control after Saha and Adebayor netted, but Redknapp said he was never comfortable with his side’s advantage.

“We seemed to buckle after they scored. That’s not like us, we don’t do that too often,” Redknapp said.

“I didn’t feel comfortable at 2-0, to be honest. They were creating chances and I wasn’t exactly sitting there feeling comfortable.”

“We were hitting them on the counter-attack but we were camping deep in our own half and they were making opportunities.”
