West Ham´s Jarvis hopes fade

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce says his attempts to bring Wolves winger Matt Jarvis to Upton Park have hit a stumbling block.

Jarvis impressed in a lacklustre Wolves team that were relegated from the Premier League last season, scoring eight goals and assisting four.

The 26-year-old is keen on an immediate return to the Premier League and still harbours hopes of an England recall after his impressive displays last year, but a move looks unlikely at the moment with the clubs unable to agree on a transfer fee.

“It is stuck – that’s the answer,” Allardyce told reporters when quizzed on the deal.

“I don’t know how that will pan out now. I think that we’ll just have to wait and see. We have got to try to agree something with Wolverhampton Wanderers.”

Allardyce is hoping to push through the deal after missing out on a loan swoop for Liverpool striker Andy Carroll.

“We never agreed with Liverpool any deal to be able to speak to Andy Carroll to see if he would join us,” he said.

West Ham have been one of the most active parties in the transfer window following promotion via the play-offs from the Championship yet Allardyce is seeking further additions.

But he insists that the only true priority on his mind at the moment is getting a result against Aston Villa on Saturday in their Premier League opener.

“I think there is a lot of excitement around the place, obviously because we’re getting closer and closer to kick-off,” the former Bolton boss said.

“We are pleased with the players we have brought in, but we’re still waiting to bring a few more in before the end of the window.”
