Wishere plays down injury fears

Jack Wilshere is confident he did not sustain a serious injury in England’s 1-0 friendly win over Denmark on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old was floored by a Daniel Agger tackle early in the first half of the Wembley clash and looked to be in serious pain before receiving extensive treatment to his left foot.

A series of ankle injuries have hampered Wilshere’s young career, though he eventually recovered enough to play 59 minutes.

It was Wilshere’s replacement, Adam Lallana, who ultimately found the way through a stubborn Danish defence, jinking his way into the penalty area before crossing for Daniel Sturridge to head the only goal of the game.

Afterwards, the Arsenal man was happy with the national side’s efforts in the final friendly before coach Roy Hodgson names his FIFA World Cup squad, and was quick to soothe any fitness fears that may have worried fans and management alike at the Emirates Stadium.

He told Sky Sports: “I’m fine. It’s a bit sore but it’s only a bruise. I’ve had a scan already and it showed just a bruise, so I’ll be alright.

“I think it went well. It was tough in the first half, we kept trying and they defended well. We created some chances and their keeper was really good tonight as well.

“We kept going and got the goal in the end. When it comes to the World Cup, those crucial goals at the end are going to make a big difference.”
