Goalscorer Gianluca Zambrotta was pleased to contribute with a rare strike in AC Milan’s 4-0 win over Catania on Sunday.

Zambrotta netted the second for hosts Milan in their Serie A victory at the San Siro.

It was the veteran fullback’s first goal in three years, with the other efforts coming from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robinho and a Francesco Lodi own goal.

Following a slow start to their title defence, Milan have now recorded five-consecutive league victories and are up to third on the table – one point behind leaders Udinese.

“It’s always great to score and it was such a great performance by the team as well,” Zambrotta said.

“We’ve been playing well as a team recently, we seem to be hitting a purple match right now.”

“We scored four goals today and didn’t concede any, against a strong team.”

“They’ve always created difficulties for the top teams this year and they’re not that far from the top of the table, therefore we’re happy with our performance in general.”

Zambrotta spared a thought for teammate Antonio Cassano, who is expected to be out of action for several months after suffering an ischaemic stroke.

“Obviously I want to dedicate this victory to Antonio. We want him back on the pitch soon because we’re missing him, both on the pitch and in the changing room,” Zambrotta said.
