Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has underlined his desire to remain at Anfield for at least the next three years.
The 28-year-old has made over 200 appearances at the heart of the Merseyside club’s defence since a 2006 move from Brondby, lifting the FA Cup and League Cup during that time.
And, after surpassing his best-ever Premier League appearance record this term having started 35 top-flight games, the Dane says he hopes to see out the remainder of his contract, which runs until 2016.
“I’m happy here,” he said. “I still have three years left on my contract and I intend to fulfil them. There are always rumours. Who’s creating them? I don’t know.
“It’s not a bad thing to be linked with big clubs, but you have to take 70 percent off whatever you hear and then there’s the reality.”
Brendan Rodgers’ side are all but guaranteed to finish seventh in the Premier League after a disastrous start to the season virtually ended their top-four hopes before the turn of the year.
But Agger sees signs of promise under the Northern Irishman and is confident that the club can move forward with the right additions.
“I think we have played some really good football this season, but we haven’t been consistent enough. We have to admit that,” he added.
“Seventh in the league is far from where we want to be. We need to change something.
“It’s difficult to say how much strengthening the squad needs. But we need to get some more quality in to help us move forward. What we need next season is consistency.”
He also insisted that Liverpool will not struggle to attract players despite their absence from European competition.
“I don’t think that will be a problem,” he continued. “Liverpool is such a big club worldwide. I think, and I hope, most players worldwide would want to join this club.”
Agger, who has helped his side keep 15 clean sheets in 2012-13, will miss the final two games of the season as he undergoes treatment on a back problem.
