Dutch giants Ajax have confirmed that they are interested in signing defender Oguchi Onyewu on a free transfer from Standard Liege.
Club director Rik van den Boog revelation on signing the United States International is not surprising, as a host of English clubs and Fenerbahce are also in the race to sign the 27-year-old.
Van den Boog told Amsterdam broadcaster AT5: “Onyewu is a very strong guy and we could very much use someone like that in our defence.”
“Especially when you look at our current squad, physical strength would be an absolutely vital addition.”
“A player who is part of the USA team is always physically strong. This is a player that we are really interested in.”
