(GSM) – Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri was satisfied with his side’s performance despite the disappointing result against Lazio (1-1).

“We showed signs of solidity,” he said of the draw at the Olimpico.

“I liked the way Milan played, as the team worked hard and we didn’t concede counter-attacks.

“I think this evening was a very intense game and in the first half we had three clear chances.

“After the break it was more even, but we conceded with a man down suffering from cramp, hit a crossbar late on and had another great opportunity with Kevin Prince Boateng at the end.

“If we had emerged with a victory, then we’d be here saying Milan rediscovered itself. We’re on the right track.”

However, Allegri acknowledged they do need to improve if they want to get back to their glory days.

“We need to improve the mistakes that we keep making. For example, after taking the lead we released the pressure a little bit and didn’t hold possession.

“We must remember that there are opponents, so we cannot dominate for 90 minutes. The team worked well and we just need a victory, which hopefully will arrive on Saturday, but it was a good performance in my view.”

The Rossoneri are already five points adrift of Serie A leaders Internazionale.

“We just need to race ourselves and not anybody else. It’s true we are behind, but for example Roma and Milan last season fought their way back from bad starts. It’s a long season and we’re just at the beginning.”
