Anderlecht show interest in Thomas Vermaelen

The 31-year-old Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen could join Belgium heavyweights Anderlecht during summer.

Injury-prone centre-back who struggled with different fitness issues for the good part of his career at Barcelona has spent last season on loan at AS Roma and is back with the Catalans to sort his future.

Ernesto Valverde is not counting on the experienced Belgian who has emerged as somewhat shock target for Anderlecht.

Belgian newspaper Dernier Heure claim Barcelona are keen to let Vermaelen go in order to make some room in their squad with the likes of Vermaelen, Douglas and Munir El Haddadi all standing at the exit door.

It is reported that Belgium international has generated plenty of interest from all around Europe with several Premier League clubs also keen to land the former Arsenal man, but a return to his homeland is also on the cards.

Anderlecht appear to be willing to launch an ambitious bid to land the Barcelona defender after losing Bram Nuytinck to Udinese.
