(TVL) – RSC Anderlecht have won the Belgian championship, beating Club Brugge 1-2 to secure their 30th domestic title.

Jelle Van Damme put the Brussels outfit ahead after 30 minutes in Brugge, and when Matias Suarez made it 0-2, it looked like the title was all but in the pocket.

Wesley Sonck did pull one back late on but it was not enough to keep Anderlecht from winning the championship in the stadium of their biggest rivals.

Anderlecht won their first title in 1947 and have since become Belgium’s most successful side by far. It is their first league trophy since 2007, after finishing behind Standard Liege in the last two years.

The defeat may turn out to be even more painful for Brugge, whose second place is now taken by Gent following a 5-0 win over Zulte-Waregem.

Adnan Custovic, Yassine El Ghanassy, Luigi Pieroni, Zlatan Ljubijankic and Randall Azofeifa scored to lead Gent to a very comfortable victory.
