Another prodigal son has now returned to Estadio Monumental as veteran playmaker Andres D’Alessandro has joined the club on loan from Internacional.

The 34-year-old has signed a one-year loan with the club where he had started his career and his arrival is bound to give the team a major boost ahead of the start of the new season.

The attacking midfielder made a total of 70 league appearances for River Plate after coming through the youth ranks, scoring 19 goals, before he made a switch to Wolfsburg in 2003.

D’Alessandro has since represented Portsmouth, Zaragoza, San Lorenzo and Internacional, where he has spent last eight years.

The experienced footballer enjoyed a very successful stint with the Brazilian giants, scoring 36 goals in 180 league appearances.

D’Alessandro now returns to River Plate some 13 years after leaving the club and no doubts he will be in for a hero’s welcome when he features in his first match.
