Arsenal join race for Ben Arfa

The Mirror reports that Arsenal have joined the race to sign Newcastle star Hatem Ben Arfa.

The French international had a slow start to his career at St James Park, but then exploded into action last season, helping the Magpies to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old, who is currently with the France squad at the European Championship, has since seen his name linked with a number of high profile clubs.

The Mirror now claims Arsenal have joined the race to sign the highly-rated attacker.

The Gunners have already secured the signing of Lukas Podolski, but with Robin van Persie edging closer towards the Emirates exit, Arsene Wenger wants to sign at least one more forward.

They could, however, face a stiff competition from Chelsea, who are expected to turn to Ben Arfa should they fail in their efforts to sign Porto’s Hulk.

The Frenchman has been in fine form last season, scoring 5 goals and producing 6 assists in 26 Premier League games.
