Catalan daily newspaper Sport has learned that Arsenal are hot on the trail of Barcelona youngster Sergi Samper.
With the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini all expected to leave in the summer, the Gunners are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements.
And while they are reportedly wrapping up a January deal for Mohamed Elneny, Arsenal are also showing interest in Barcelona’s Sergi Samper.
Arsene Wenger is reportedly a big fan of the 20-year-old footballer and he hopes to lure him to the Emirates at the end of the current campaign.
Even though Samper has a €12 million release clause in his contract at Camp Nou, the Gunners plan to start the bidding at €6 million.
The talented midfielder has largely impressed playing for the reserves in Segunda and Segunda B, making a total of 88 league appearances since coming through the ranks, while he has so far featured in five Copa del Rey games for the senior side and another three Champions League fixtures.
