Atletico de Madrid coach Javier Aguirre has gone public with his desire to sign fellow Mexican Rafael Marquez from Barcelona this summer and reports suggest that Barcelona are ready to let the defender leave the Nou Camp for a fair price.
Goal.com reports that Aguirre is a big fan of the centre-back, and would jump at the chance to take the Mexican to Vicente Calderon.
Aguirre stated “It is not a secret to anyone that he is a very attractive player and that he is a reference point in the international game because he can play in different positions.”
“Rafael, apart from being a friend of mine, is a great player. Any coach, because I am no exception, would want him.”
If Aguirre fails in his bid for Marquez he may be forced to turn to fellow Mexican defender Jonny Magallon, who currently plays in Mexico with club Chivas de Guadalajara.
Aguirre is currently busy pursuing a number of players as he aims to continue Atletico’s succesful La Liga campaign into next year.
