Barca join race for Aguero

Catalan daily Sport understands that Barcelona are weighing up a summer move for Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero.

The Catalans are hoping to persuade David Villa into signing a new deal at Camp Nou, as his current contract is due to expire in June 2014.

If the Spain international refuses to sign the contract extension, Barcelona officials will have no choice but to sell Villa and try to sign him a replacement.

According to Sport, Sergio Aguero is being lined up as a potential replacement for David Villa.

The 24-year-old has already expressed his desire to return to Spanish La Liga, but it is Real Madrid that are believed to be leading the race for the highly rated attacker.

Barcelona will now attempt to hijack their bid for Aguero and lure him to Camp Nou instead. The Argentina international will not come on the cheap though, with City having paid no less than €45 million for him in the summer of 2011.
