Beckham weighing up PSG future

SoccerNews in Ligue 1 30 Mar 2013

David Beckham was tight-lipped about his future beyond this season following Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-0 win over Montpellier on Friday.

Ligue 1 leaders PSG left it late to beat the defending champions, with substitute Kevin Gameiro’s effort nine minutes from time enough to secure the points at Parc des Princes.

Beckham made another solid contribution for the Paris outfit, which has prompted talk from manager Carlo Ancelotti for the Englishman to extend his stay beyond his five-month deal.

However, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star is purely focused on the club’s title challenge.

“There’s a few weeks left until the end of the season and then I’ll sit down with Carlo and speak about that (whether he’ll stay next season), but we’ll see,” Beckham told reporters.

“I think it’s important that we won this game tonight. That was the big thing.

“Who wouldn’t want to stay at a club like this? It’s very special. But I’m not getting any younger so we’ll see how I feel at the end of the season. But it’s always nice to be wanted.”

Next up for PSG is a Champions League quarter-final showdown with Spanish giants Barcelona on Tuesday, a challenge Beckham is relishing.

“Obviously tonight was the important match for us,” he said.

“Now our focus will turn to Barcelona and I think everybody is excited about the game because whenever I have come up against Barcelona you always get excited about playing the best players and the best teams.”

PSG team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic also expression his excitement with the upcoming clash after his two-game suspension was reduced to one.

“It was a good game – a good game before Barca and now Barca are waiting which is a very important game,” the Swedish striker said.

“We’re playing at home so and I can play and I’m very happy to play so let’s see how that game goes.

“I think we played well tonight but Tuesday is a totally different game against Barcelona. They are probably the best team in the world so it’s a totally different game.”
