Sepp Blatter says Kevin-Prince Boateng was wrong to walk off the pitch after receiving racist insults in a recent friendly.

The AC Milan midfielder opted to leave the field during the club’s friendly with Pro Patria this week, after a small section of the home fans directed racial abuse towards the Ghana international.

“Walk off? No, I don’t think that is the solution,” Blatter told reporters in Dubai.

“But the Italian federation have yet to provide FIFA with the report detailing what exactly has happened.

“I don’t think you can run away, because eventually you can run away if you lose a match.

“This issue is a very touchy subject, but I repeat there is zero tolerance of racism in the stadium; we have to go against that.

“The only solution is to be very harsh with the sanctions – and the sanctions must be a deduction of points or something similar.”

The San Siro club showed their support for Boateng before Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Siena, with the entire squad wearing t-shirts emblazoned with the message ‘AC Milan against racism’.
