Bolton sign Ameobi

Talksport understands that former Newcastle United forward Shoala Ameobi has penned a short-term deal with Championship strugglers Bolton Wanderers.

The thirty-four year old has recently been on trial with Neil Lennon’s side and impressed to the extent that he has been offered a contract.

Ameobi has spent the majority of his career so far with Newcastle, racking up almost four hundred appearances and scoring seventy-nine goals in all competitions across thirteen seasons.

He had a brief loan spell with Stoke City during the 2007/08 campaign while he began last season at Turkish side Gaziantep before moving to Crystal Palace to link up with former boss Alan Pardew.

Bolton already have veteran striker Emile Heskey in their ranks, while former Chelsea and Barcelona forward Eidur Gudjohnsen ended his second spell with the club at the end of last season.

The Lancashire outfit currently sit bottom of the Championship, and can be backed at a price of 8/11 to stay up.
