(GSM) – Fluminense climbed back to second place in the Brazilian Serie A following a convincing 5-1 win over Atletico Mineiro on Thursday.

After Cruzeiro’s 2-0 win over Ceara on Wednesday, pressure was on ‘Flu’ to win as well in order to reconquer their second position.

Leandro Euzebio scored the opening goal for Fluminense after 11 minutes at the Joao Havelange Olympic Stadium of Rio de Janeiro, but had it canceled out by Daniel Carvalho eight minutes later.

But when Carlinhos’ restored the home side’s lead in the 35th minute, Atletico Mineiro no longer has the right response.

Gum doubled the gap three minutes after the hour, Carlinhos added another on 76 minutes and Marquinho made it 5-1 in added time.

Mineiro were two men down by the time the final whistle sounded. Ale was handed his second booking in the 62nd minute and substitute Diego Souza received a straight red card in the 85th.
