Bremen suspend Arnautovic and Elia

Werder Bremen duo Marko Arnautovic and Eljero Elia have been suspended by the club for the rest of the season for speeding on a motorway.

The Austrian forward and the Dutch midfielder were
stopped for speeding in separate cars last week, leading the club to initially impose
a temporary ban.

However, Bremen have now extended it to include all training
sessions and matches until the end of the season, despite the club being in a
precarious position in the Bundesliga.

Currently in 14th place, the club’s 32-year
stay in Germany’s top flight could soon be at an end and sports director Thomas
Eichin said in a statement that all players needed to be focused on avoiding
the drop.

“In the final stretch of the season we need all players
to be fully focused,” he said.

“We have made it clear to Marko Arnautovic and
Eljero Elia that their behaviour damaged the team in this phase. Both will
train separately until the end of the season.”

Bremen face 17th-placed Hoffenheim in a
crucial game at the bottom of the table.
