Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero is determined to remain at the club after playing his way into the number one shirt at the Etihad Stadium.

Joe Hart’s loan to Torino and Claudio Bravo’s faltering first-season form in Manchester have seen Caballero rise to prominence under Pep Guardiola.

The Argentine has made 26 appearances in all competitions, keeping nine clean sheets, but his contract – along with that of the likes of Jesus Navas, Yaya Toure and Gael Clichy – runs out next month.

“I am waiting and doing my job,” Caballero said ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Watford. “I hope we can achieve our last target of finishing third and then Pep and the club will be in a position to make decisions about a lot of players.

“I don’t know if there is a meeting scheduled. That is for my agent. For my side, I have to be concentrated on the Watford game because we still need the points.

“If I was a young player, I would probably feel more anxious, but I am an experienced player and I am living really well.

“I would like to speak with the club when the last game finishes and I want stay because I am really happy and so are my family.

“This has been my best season at City because I started behind Claudio Bravo and Joe Hart and now I am number one, so we will see.”
