A solid win over Uniao Barbarense on Friday has seen Oeste move clear of the relegation zone in the Paulista.
On a warm evening at the Estadio Dos Amaros in Itapolis, second-half goals from Serginho and Micerlanio Fernandes gave Oeste the victory.
It was Oeste goalkeeper Fernando Leal who proved the hero early on as he saved a penalty before Serginho added salt to the wounds by scoring from the spot down the other end in the 61st minute.
Serginho was on hand to provide the assist four minutes later as Fernandes sealed the result for Oeste.
The win was just Oeste’s third from 10 matches this season, but it was enough to take them from 16th on the Paulista table into 13th as second-last Uniao remain in serious relegation trouble with just five points gained so far.
Elsewhere, Paulinho’s 90th-minute goal helped XV de Piracicaba (14th) earn a share of the points in a 2-2 draw with Mirassol (12th).
Following a quiet first hour, all the goals came in an entertaining final 27 minutes when Cesinha opened the scoring for XV de Piracicaba in the 63rd minute.
Camilo levelled the contest from the spot in the 76th minute and Mirassol took the lead when Pio scored three minutes later but Paulinho was on hand to ensure points were shared.
