Celtic linked with Swiss star Frei

Borussia Dortmund and Switzerland striker Alexander Frei claims that Scottish Premier League champions Celtic are interested in signing him for the third time in his career, according to the Daily Mirror.

Frei told press: “Apparently Celtic were in for me in 2004 and 2006, Now they want me again in 2008.”

“However, no-one has ever put an offer on the table. If they want me they can phone me. Otherwise, I don’t want to talk about it.”

Frei, 28, is a prolific striker for both country and club, scoring 16 in 37 games for Dortmund and 35 in 59 for Switzerland. The striker was in the Switzerland squad for Euro 2008, but has now been ruled out of the rest of the tournament, which his country Switzerland is co-hosting, after sustaining a knee injury during Saturday’s tournament-opening defeat by the Czech Republic.

Celtic are also hoping that Birmingham boss Alex McLeish will do the club a favour by signing towering centre-back Bobo Balde according to The Daily Record. Balde’s wages stand at £28,000-a-week and the money saved could go towards financing the deal for Swiss striker Frei.
