Chelsea linked to Mario Gomez

German newspaper Bild understands that Chelsea are keeping close tabs on Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez.

With Jose Mourinho set to return to Stamford Bridge in the summer, the squad are likely to undergo major changes ahead of the 2013/2014 season.

It is believed the Portuguese manager is not a big admirer of Fernando Torres and he will be looking to sign a new centre forward.

According to Bild, Bayern’s Mario Gomez is on top of his hit-list, with the Blues officials already establishing the first contact with the player’s representatives.

The Germany international is hoping to leave Alianz Arena in search of first team football having lost his place in the starting line-up to Mario Mandzukic.

Despite starting just 9 Bundesliga games, Gomez is still held in high regard by top European clubs, which is hardly surprising given that he has bagged 75 goals in 115 league matches for the Bavarians.
