Amidst all the drama that has ensued at Stamford Bridge this summer, Chelsea FC seems to sincerly have a handle on things as a couple of key senior players have commited their long term future to the club.

Despite having a new manager in Luiz Scolari, as well as the Lampard and Drogba transfer sagas, not to metion the hot speculation about all the potential moves in and out - Carvalho, Shevchenko, Eto’o, Kaka, Robinho - Chelsea’s administration has tied Petr Cech, Micheal Essien and Wayne Bridge all to new contracts.

According to ESPNsoccernet, midfielder Michael Essien and goalkeeper Peter Cech have both signed new five-year deals. To secure the services of Essien despite the potential influx of midfielders, with Deco being the most recent recruit, shows that in the midst of all the off-season trading some players are still certain of their importance to the club and hence their playing opportunities.

Essien was quoted as saying, ‘I am very happy here. We have a great team and fantastic fans who have always made me welcome.’

‘With the addition of the new manager, I am feeling very positive about the season ahead.’

Goalkeeper Cech also had this to say: ‘I am very happy to have renewed my contract with them.’

‘Chelsea has grown in my heart, not just because of my teammates and all the people that work for the club, but also because of their fantastic fans.’

These new contract renewals come on the heels of the recently concluded Euro where German midfield ace Micheal Ballack also announced his intention to end his career at Stamford Bridge.
