Inter defender Cristian Chivu believes the club’s players must take responsibility for their recent poor form.

Andrea Stramaccioni’s men have lost their last two games and have one just one of their last four, leading to speculation over the young coach’s future.

However, Chivu has said that the blame must lie at the feet of the squad, and defended his boss ahead of their Europa League return leg with Tottenham.

“I think the players have to take responsibility,” Chivu told reporters.

“The coach is doing his best and that has not been said. We need to get a win and maybe a qualification. We need to have the trust and confidence (in our ability).

“We need to work and follow the coach, who is doing his best. I do not like it when the words are said to create to a match between the team and the coach.”

Inter trail Spurs 3-0 from the first leg, with the return clash at San Siro on Thursday.
