Only two points separated Qingdo Jonoon and Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League table when they met on Saturday.

Hosts Qingdao were fastest out of the blocks, Yang Zhi making a mess of Bruno Meneghel’s shot but managing to keep it out.

Then it was Beijing’s turn to dominate.

But despite having the bulk of possession they didn’t seriously trouble Liu Zhenli in goal, despite Freddie Kanoute’s best efforts.

Joffre Guerron tried his luck from range with similar effect but eventually their lack of a cutting edge would come back to haunt them.

Only minutes later they should have been two up but Gabriel Melkam will feel he could have done better with his header.

The hosts were left to rue that miss eight minutes after half-time when Zhang Xinxin squeezed a shot through the defence and past a despairing Liu.

Beijing stay fourth with Qingdao two points back in sixth.
