Highly rated Internacional forward Leandro Damiao has turned down a move to English Premier League side Southampton.
The Tottenham and Napoli target, 24, has been hopeful of a move to Europe throughout the off-season, with his value set at £22million.
Southampton were reportedly ready to smash the club’s transfer record and offer £21m, but Damiao wants to join a bigger club.
“At the moment, things have quietened down in Brazil, but we are still waiting for that important call from the Old Continent,” Damiao’s agent Vinicius Prates said.
“Southampton have made an approach, but we have decided to wait for a more ambitious club.”
Several Premier League clubs are believed to be interested in Damiao, whose most likely destination appears to be Tottenham.
Napoli were in negotiations to bring Damiao to the Serie A, but they were unable to reach an agreement.
