Atalanta striker German Denis has played down his hat-trick against Inter on Sunday, saying he is only doing his job.

The 31-year-old scored three goals in 12 minutes to help his side to an unlikely 4-3 victory at San Siro, having trailed 3-1 with just over half an hour to play.

“I just do what the coach asks of me and what we prepare in training. I have learned a lot since I arrived in this country because it is necessary to learn hard work,” Denis told Sky Sport.

“Italian football is among the most difficult in the world and it is difficult to maintain your form.”

Denis was eager not to get ahead of himself and insisted he did not feel entitled to more international caps for national side Argentina.

“It is hard because I need to be scoring twice the number of goals to compete with all the great players Argentina have,” he said.

“But I am happy with the few times I could wear the Argentina shirt and play with so many great players.”
