Atletico Madrid have signed Brazilian playmaker Diego from Wolfsburg on loan until the end of the season.
Diego spent the 2011-12 season on loan at Atletico and scored the final goal as the club beat Athletic Bilbao 3-0 to win the UEFA Europa League.
The Brazil international has made 15 league appearances for Wolfsburg this season, scoring three goals, but will now join up with Diego Simeone’s charges to aid their La Liga title challenge.
“It was a matter of time before Atletico reached where it is. I already saw the potential of the team and the club when I was here,” Diego told Atletico’s official website.
“The management team is clear, our coach knows where to take us, so I come to help take this path.
“I am very happy to be part of such a strong group, one of the form teams in Europe.”
With Diego coming in, Atletico have allowed 20-year-old playmaker Oliver Torres to leave for fellow La Liga outfit Villarreal on loan until the end of the season, while forward Josuha Guilavogui has linked up with Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne on a similar deal.
