Dortmund wanted Claudio Pizarro

Sport Bild has learned that Borussia Dortmund and Hamburger SV were also interested in signing Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro.

The 36-year-old returned for the third spell with Werder Bremen after his contract at Bayern Munich had come to an end, but the Weserstadion outfit were not the only side showing interest in his services.

According to Sport Bild, the veteran striker also had offers from Bundesliga sides Borussia Dortmund and Hamburger SV.

But, while he didn’t even consider moving to Signal-Iduna Park due to fierce competition for starting places, Pizarro also rejected a chance to join HSV due to their long-standing rivalry with Werder Bremen.

The Peru international ultimately opted to return to Weserstadion and it appears he has made the right choice.

Pizarro provided an assist for the injury-time winner against Hoffenheim in his first match for Werder since signing a new deal, before Zlatko Junuzovic scored in the very next minute to make it 3-1.
