Draxler rules out Dortmund switch

Schalke’s Julian Draxler says only “brainwashing” would make him move to Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund, but he may yet play abroad.

Draxler reportedly caught the attention of both Manchester City and Real Madrid last season with his performances for Schalke, but he rejected their advances and opted to stay in the Bundesliga.

The midfielder – who made 39 appearances for the club in all competitions in 2012-13, scoring 13 goals – was also linked with a move to Ruhr neighbours Dortmund, but the 19-year-old was adamant that was one switch he would not be making.

“I honestly think that’s amusing,” he told Bild. “To make it clear again, unless I am subjected to brainwashing I will never move to Dortmund.”

Draxler did concede, however, that he would have to give serious consideration to any offers from abroad were they to come in again.

“If I get offers again, I’m going to sit back, think and make a decision,” he admitted.

“My goal is now to maintain the performances from last season and go one better.”
