England star out of World Cup qualifiers

Liverpool have announced that Steve Gerrard is to undergo an operation on a groin problem. He will miss ten to fifteen days of football and will be unavailable for England’s world cup qualifying games in Andorra and Croatia.

Now, even England without Steve Gerrard should be good enough to scrape a win against Andorra in Spain, but England with Gerrard would find it hard in Croatia.

With Gerrard being one of only three England players regularly to perform in the ‘world class’ category with Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand, he will be a serious miss when England head to Croatia on 10th September.

It is difficult to think of much worse news that England’s increasingly under-fire boss Fabio Capello could have read over his cornflakes this morning.
