Eredivisie Preview: Feyenoord revival to be tested

Feyenoord will be out to continue their Eredivisie revival when they visit third-placed Cambuur on Sunday.

Fred Rutten’s side made an awful start to the season, which begun when they were bundled out of the UEFA Champions League qualification stages.

The Rotterdam club won just two of their first 12 matches in all competitions and a winless run of five in the Eredivisie saw them drop to as low as 15th in the table.

For a club of Feyenoord’s standing and record – they have finished in the top three in the last three seasons – results were unacceptable.

But Rutten have overseen an upturn in the club’s fortunes, which has seen them win their last three league games.

Eredivisie victories by 4-0 scorelines against Go Ahead Eagles and Groningen were followed with a 2-1 success against Heracles last weekend, with six different players scoring in the three triumphs.

Now up to eighth in the league, Feyenoord will be challenged against a Cambuur side who have started the season brightly.

Cambuur, promoted to the top flight last term, have lost just one league match and in Nigeria’s Bartholomew Ogbeche, have one of the Eredivisie’s top scorers.

Ogbeche has netted six times so far for a side whose only loss came at league leaders PSV.

PSV have netted 25 times in nine Eredivisie matches in 2014-15 and go to Utrecht on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, fourth-placed PEC Zwolle host Heerenveen and Twente – the only unbeaten side in the league – battle Excelsior.

Defending champions Ajax are four points behind PSV in second and will be expected to see off Go Ahead Eagles.

Rock-bottom Heracles face Willem II, while AZ do battle with Groningen.

And Vitesse take on NAC Breda and ADO Den Haag play Dordrecht in other matches.
