  • La Liga
  • One game left and still Barcelona lead by one point. Valencia are safe in third whilst Sevilla have a one point advantage over Mallorca for fourth.

Barcelona survived their toughest test as they ran out 3-2 winners at Sevilla. It all looked easy as Messi and Bojan gave them a 2-0 half-time lead and then Sevilla were reduced to ten men early in the second half when Konko was shown the red card. Pedrito then made it 3-0 and Barcelona were strolling to victory. However, two goals in two minutes from Kanoute and Luis Fabiano brought Sevilla back to 2-3 and gave Barcelona a nervy last twenty minutes.

Real Madrid had a comfortable looking 5-1 win at the Bernabeu against Athletic Bilbao but in reality they left it late. Ronaldo gave them an early lead from the penalty spot but the visitors equalised before half-time. Considering the fact that Bilbao were reduced to ten men in the twentieth minute it is surprising that it took until the last fifteen minutes for Real to score again. Of course, they went on to score another three as well. The second half scorers were Higuain, Sergio Ramos, Benzema and Marcelo.

Valencia lost 2-0 at Villarreal who played the last twenty minutes with just nine men!

Mallorca failed to capitalise on Sevilla’s defeat as they lost 1-0 at Deportivo.

The battle for fourth takes place on Saturday when Sevilla travel to lower mid-table Almeria whilst Mallorca are at home to Espanyol who are in a similar position.

Sunday sees the title decided as Barcelona are at home to relegation threatened Valladolid, whilst Real Madrid travel to the also relegation threatened Malaga.

  • Serie A
  • One game to go and Inter are closing in on a famous treble. They lead Roma by two points whilst Milan have a three point advantage and better goal difference over Sampdoria for third place.

After a Samuel own goal put Inter behind at the San Siro against Chievo, they quickly equalised with an own goal of their own and then moved into a commanding 4-1 lead with further strikes from Cambiasso, Milito and Balotelli. Chievo then pulled two goals back to make it 4-3 and give Milan a nervous last twenty minutes.

Roma kept their hopes alive with a 2-1 home win over Cagliari. They went behind with fifteen minutes remaining but a late double strike from Totti secured the points and took the title to the last weekend.

Milan lost 1-0 at Genoa but breathed a sigh relief as Sampdoria could only manage a 1-1 draw at Palermo.

On Sunday Inter play at second from bottom Sienna whilst Roma travel to the mid-table Chievo side who gave Inter a scare this week.

Unless Milan lose by double figures at home to Juventus it won’t matter what Sampdoria do at home to Napoli.

  • Bundesliga
  • Bayern Munich confirmed their German league triumph with a 3-1 win at Hertha Berlin. Olic gave them a first half lead and after the home side equalised, a brace from Arjen Robben led to celebrations at the final whistle.

Schalke ended up four points behind the champions as they played out a disappointing goalless draw at Mainz.

Werder Bremen claimed third place as Pizarro earned them a 1-1 draw at home to Hamburg, whilst Bayer Leverkusen were two points behind in fourth, as they too had a 1-1 draw, away at Borussia Munchengladbach.

  • Ligue 1
  • Marseille are champions in France although there is still one game to play. They have a five point lead over second placed Lille who have a two point gap over Auxerre. Nothing is decided other than the title as Lyon are two points behind Auxerre with a game in hand and Montpellier are also only two points away from Auxerre.

Marseille lost 3-2 at second placed Lille despite Niang and Hilton giving them a 2-1 half-time lead. It didn’t matter to the champions as Auxerre were unable to win at home to Lens in a disappointing 0-0 draw.

Montpellier beat Lorient 2-1 courtesy of two penalties whilst Lyon needed a last minute own goal to earn a 2-2 draw at Valenciennes.

  • Portuguese Liga Sagres
  • Benfica won the league by a comfortable looking five points in the end in Portugal. They beat Rio Ave 2-1 thanks to a double from Cardozo, whilst Braga, who pushed Benfica all the way, could only draw 1-1 at Nacional.

Third placed Porto ended the season in style with a 4-1 win at Uniao Leiria.

  • SPL
  • In the end Rangers only won the title by six points from Celtic. They were held 3-3 at home by Motherwell as the visitors scored twice in injury-time to somewhat ruin the party at Ibrox. A pair from Lafferty and one from Kris Boyd had looked like giving them the points.

Celtic had a 2-1 win at Hearts thanks to goals from Robbie Keane and Zhi.

Dundee United and Hibernian finished third and fourth after Hibs won 2-0 at United.

  • Greek Super League
  • It is all over in Greece. Panathinaikos had already won the league and they did it in style by six points from Olympiakos who pipped PAOK Salonika to second place despite PAOK winning the game between the two 1-0.

  • Turkcell Super Lig
  • One game to go in Turkey and Fenerbahce lead Bursaspor by a point. Galatasaray and Besiktas are battling for third on the same number of points as each other but Galatasaray have the better goal difference.

Fenerbahce had a 3-1 win at Ankaragucu to fully take advantage and go back ahead of Bursaspor who had no game.

Besiktas put the pressure on Galatasaray as they beat Manisaspor 2-0 whilst Galatasaray lost 2-1 at home to Antalyaspor.
