Manchester City have introduced the Far Eastern tradition of feng shui to the Premier League in a bid to boost their challenge for honours.
Feng shui crystals have been placed under the pitch at the team's Eastlands stadium and symbols placed in strategic spots around the ground at the request of City's Thai owners.
Former Thai prime minster Thaksin Shinawatra and two of his executives are firm believers in the ancient tradition and expect the crystals will bring positive energy and harmony.
They reportedly told City's executive chairman Garry Cook to bury several crystals beneath the centre circle and corner flags, while 100 more will be put on concrete posts around Eastlands.
“It is like a Catholic putting a Crucifix on a wall,” a City source said.
“It is common practice for Christian pastors to bless the club and Garry felt this was something worth trying.”
