Brazilian champions Fluminense have sacked coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo as they desperately attempt to beat the Serie A drop.

Luxemburgo took over from title-winning coach Abel Braga in July, but has been unable to reverse Flu’s fortunes as they languish in a relegation scrap.

Fluminense have not won since September, and currently sit 18th in the table, with only five games to play this term.

A club statement read: “On the decision of club president Peter Siemsen, coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo will not continue in his role as coach of Fluminense.

“Fluminense appreciates the efforts of the coach and his coaching staff.”

Flu will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they host Nautico on Thursday.
