Frustrated Eto´o threatens Barca exit

Three-time African Player of the Year Samuel Eto'o threatened to quit Barcelona next season if the Spanish giants' title drought continues.

“If things carry on next season like this, well, I want to win titles and if I can't do that here, then it will be an another club,” said Eto'o, speaking to Catalan radio station RAC1.

“However, if I move, it will be away from Spain. Spain feels like home and I've reached the sky with Barcelona,” added the Cameroon striker, who played at Spanish first division sides Real Madrid, Espanyol and Real Mallorca earlier in his career.

Eto'o has been at Barcelona since 2004 and in his first two seasons at the Spanish giants he was part of teams that won two Spanish league titles and also the 2006 Champions League.

However, last year Barcelona failed to win anything and this season they currently lie third in la Liga, a distant 11 points behind league leaders and bitter rivals Real Madrid.

They face English Premiership leaders Manchester United in this season's Champions League semi-final, with Barca at home in the first leg on Wednesday but after three successive domestic draws most pundits tip Sir Alex Fergueson's men for victory.

“Manchester are the favourites,” conceded Eto'o.

“But let's see what happens. It's a big motivation for us to upset the odds.”

Eto'o celebrated his 241st Spanish first division game in Barca's 0-0 draw with local rivals Espanyol on Saturday, equalling the record for appearances by an African player in La Liga.

He joins his compatriot Thomas N'Kono at the top of the rankings.

The former Indomitable Lions goalkeeper played at Espanyol between 1982 and 1989.
