Garde thrilled with organised Lyon

Lyon coach Remi Garde was pleased with the organised performance of his team during their 3-0 Ligue 1 win over Reims on Sunday.

An Anthony Weber own goal and strikes from Bafetimbi Gomis and Lisandro Lopez were enough to secure maximum points for Lyon.

The seven-time French league champions are a solitary point clear of Bordeaux atop of the standings with a game hand and Garde was happy with his team’s performance.

“The positives things to remember are that we played a disciplined game tonight,” Garde said.

“We were serious against a team which was well organised and who also caused us some troubles in our own construction of our game.

“I will take the positives from tonight of the organisation and effort of the team, the will to go forward and at the same time still being organised in the defence.

“I think we did not concede many chances, maybe a volley in the first half but after that, we contained Reims attacks whilst also trying to go forward and that was enjoyable.”

French international Gomis took his league tally to five goals on Sunday and the former Saint-Etienne marksman said Lyon must now maintain their level of performance if they are to win the title.

“Maybe it’s easier to lead the table,” he said.

“Anyway, now we are wearing the yellow jersey at the top of the league, and it’s up to us to try to stay for as long as possible at the highest in the ranking.

“We are not thinking that we will be the leaders of the championship for the rest of the season but we want to stay close to the leading pack and put ourselves in the position to win the title.”
