Gerets wants Boulahrouz at Marseille

Chelsea and Netherlands defender Khalid Boulahrouz has emerged as a transfer target for French club Olympique de Marseille after manager Erik Gerets confirmed his interest in the defender to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

Boulahrouz produced a solid display in Netherlands emphatic 3-0 win over Italy yesterday, but has endured a torrid time since joining Chelsea for £8.5 million in 2006. Boulahrouz was then sent on loan to Spanish side Sevilla, where yet again the defender failed to impress.

Many Chelsea fans will be wondering if the Boulahrouz they saw against Italy was the same player that they signed two years ago.

Gerets told De Telegraaf: “I have handed a list of the reinforcements that I want to the board and he (Boulahrouz) is on it, He’s a player who interests us. It is now up to them (the board) to contact Chelsea. I don’t know if that will happen. It could do.”

“I don’t know how much Boulahrouz would cost. That is not my area. But I would really like to have him.”

The likes of Newcastle and a number of Premiership clubs had been linked to the Dutch defender, however Boulahrouz remains unaware of any interest, stating: “I have agreed with my agent that I will only be informed when I can sign.”
