Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has voiced his frustration at starting on the bench as the Netherlands overcame Slovakia 2-0 on Wednesday.

The Schalke attacker netted an impressive 48 goals in all competitions this term, but had to settle for a place on the bench for the international friendly, much to his disappointment.

“Angry is probably not the right word, but I have so many questions right now,” Huntelaar told De Telegraaf.

“I can’t do any better than last season, I always train hard and I have a positive attitude.

“There’s a chance that you become despondent if you still don’t get a chance. I don’t know what I have to do to become Oranje’s first-choice striker to be honest.”

Huntelaar said he was not concerned with Arsenal captain Robin van Persie’s form, with his focus solely on his own performances.

“The annoying thing is that everybody’s talking about me and Robin. The outside world seems to be think it’s either van Persie or Huntelaar,” he said.

“I’m not seeing it that way, though. I am only looking at myself, and I want to play.”
